The Birdhouse
Sabinal, Texas
After several years of careful planning,
The Birdhouse is finally open!

"The first day at The Birdhouse opened quietly at dawn. With operation hours from dawn to dusk on the second and third weekends of the month year round, you can enjoy the peaceful surroundings. For a group of 5 or more, special weekday appointments are available upon request.
The site is located on 302 acres of ranch property of which 35 acres are developed into walking trails through brushy pasturage overlooking scenic river bottom. Care has been taken to protect the natural habitat and protect the balance of nature while at the same time allowing the public to enjoy nature at it's finest.
Sited the first day were the Bewicks wren, black crested titmouse, cactus wren, common ground dove, golden fronted woodpecker, house finch, lark sparrow, long billed thrasher, mockingbird, northern cardinal, northern harrier, orange crowned warbler, pyrrheloxia, and white crowned sparrow. In addition to the birds, deer, a fox, javalena, and roadrunner were startled to see humans in their habitat.". Call Karen at 830-988-2215.

"The Birdhouse has a specially built long room with plate glass windows facing north to the river bank, east, and west. For the convenience of guests are a handicapped bathroom and regular bathroom and well as kitchen facilities.
The view of Henry's Bluff with black brush, cenniza, a huge cypress, live oak, milkweed, mountain laurel, native grasses, native walnut, persimmons in the foreground, complement the man-made additions of a bird bath, winding pathways which surround a long fish pond, two arched wooden bridges, rocked areas of native plants, a waterfall, and a deep fire pit for chilly evenings outdoors. In the fish pond are several varieties of water lilies and natural fish species found in the area." Nov.13, 2008 Uvalde Leader News.
